Adding intermittent and cumulative milk records

While the milk record entry button and form is labeled "Daily Record", you can enter milk records for an intermittent single day's production even if you don't add a record for every day, or enter the cumulative production for a certain period in a single entry.

To add a single day's production, open the Add Daily Records form and edit the pre-filled date to reflect the date of the milk record(s) you want to record. For example, if your last record was 8/15/13 but you want to record the milk records for 8/29/13, when you open the Add Daily Record form, you will need to edit the prefilled date from 8/16/13 to 8/29/13.

When adding a subset of milk records in this manner, the Daily Average will reflect the average of the entered records and give you as close to an actual average as possible based on the recorded data.

Similarly, you can add a single entry for the cumulative production for a period. In this case you may want to use the last production date as the record date, and have a consistent interval, such as always recording the total of Monday through Sunday's milkings using Sunday's date. This will make it easier to scan the milk record entries and see production trends, as well as allow the Daily Average field to accurately reflect the animal's average production per interval.
