Body condition scoring
Viewing Trends
Use the Body Condition Score health event category filter on the Health page to view the difference in the animal's current score from its previous score, its average score and the variance between the current score and the animal's average score.
The variance from the average BCS is calculated by subtracting the current BCS from the average of all prior scores.
BCS Scale Preference
To make data entry faster, you can select your BCS scale (range) in the Preferences section in My Account. Once set, your preference will prefill in the Scale field for all new Add Event and Add Reminder actions.
Changing your scale preference will not change any existing BCS events or reminders.
Editing the Scale field in an existing reminder, or changing the Scale field when completing an event originating from a reminder will change the method for the following events in the series; your preference setting will be overridden in these cases.
Note: We caution against changing the scale for a specific animal once it has one or more BCS scores. This ensures the animal's Trends calculations are properly reflected and we will not automatically convert these values when a new scale is selected. If you find you do need to change the scale for an animal with existing records we suggest you adjust the existing records to reflect the new scale. For example, a score of 3 on a scale of 1-5 would need to be changed to 4.5 when changing to the 1-9 scale.
Reporting
Use the Body Condition Scores report to view and compare your animals' performance and identify those animals in your herd that may need attention and additional management. Filters include Sex, Breed and Date of Birth (range).
