Calculation of dry-off dates and days in milk
Dry-off Dates
The Date to be Dried suggestion is calculated using the Date of Freshening + 305 days. This field is editable and can be adjusted anytime, such as if you decide to dry the animal early, or to take into account a rest period before the start of the next lactation once the animal is bred again.
Days in Milk
There are three Days in Milk calculations:
Current lactation. The DIM for the current lactation is calculated from the date kidded through the current date (it is inclusive). For example, if a doe kidded on Jan 1, and today is Jan 30, her days in milk would be 30.
Historical lactation. The DIM for a historical lactation is calculated by subtracting the date freshened from the date dried; The date freshened is considered a day in milk and the date dried is not. This is consistent with official milk recording services.
Lifetime. The lifetime DIM is calculated by adding the DIM for the current and all historical lactations.
