Unsuccessful breeding, early termination and false pregnancy records
Having the full picture of your animals' reproductive success requires tracking not just kiddings, but all possible outcomes for a breeding event. In the cases where a breeding does not successfully conclude with a delivery of offspring within the period of viability (as you have defined it for your herd), use one of following Breeding Outcomes to close your animal's Breeding record:
- Unsuccessful. If your animal comes back into estrus, close the breeding with this outcome. Doing so moves the breeding from the Current Breeding section to the History, and will remove the animal from the Currently Bred report and Kidding Schedule.
- Terminated Early. If an animal aborts or delivers prematurely, use this outcome. A delineation you could use between this outcome and Kidded is the average age of kid viability. This outcome allows you to add information about the birth and kids.
- False Pregnancy. This action closes the breeding and allows you to report on instances of false pregnancies to determine trends and make management decisions.
