Pedigrees

Pedigrees can be added to an animal's record from several different areas of the software:
  • When adding an animal to the herd's records
  • After an animal is added to the herd's records, from the animal's Genetics page
  • When importing an animal via the Community data lookup

While up to two generations of pedigrees are displayed on the animal's Genetics page, the database stores all identified
generational relationships regardless of the number of generations back for future expansion of the pedigree feature.

Adding animals to a pedigree

Animals can be added to a pedigree either manually or during the Community data import function.

Editing a pedigree animal's information

When editing a pedigree animal, whether it is in actually in the herd or just part of the herd's data (such as in a herd animal's pedigree), the changes made will reflect everywhere the pedigree animal is referenced in the herd's data.

To edit the pedigree animal from a pedigree display, click on its name to display the animal's Edit Profile form.

Having a pedigree animal imported via the Community data lookup does not lock you into retaining that animal or its specific information in your animal's pedigree. Animals that have been imported during the Add Registered Animal via Community data lookup function can be edited or removed from the pedigree in just the same manner as an animal that has been added manually can be updated or removed.

Removing an animal from a pedigree

An animal can be removed from a pedigree by clicking the red Remove icon below its ancestral display in any pedigree where it appears. When a first generation animal is removed from a pedigree, any ancestors associated with the removed animal will also be removed from the offspring's pedigree display.

Removing an animal from a pedigree does not delete the animal, or its associated ancestors and their relationships with it, from the herd's data. That animal and the relationships with its ancestors can still be added to other pedigrees.

Adding a pedigree animal with an established pedigree

When an animal that has its own pedigree filled out is added to another animal's pedigree, the extended pedigree will automatically pre-fill the applicable position(s) in the animal's family tree.

For example, Sagebrush's pedigree indicates that Fiddleneck is his sire and Verbena his dam. When Sagebrush is added to Petunia's pedigree as her sire, Fiddleneck and Verbena are automatically pre-filled as the Sire's Sire and Sire's Dam, respectively, in her pedigree:
