Refining the list of animals for a batch entry action

Internet Explorer users: Batch entry of health events is currently not supported on IE. Please use a different browser to access the health event batch entry function for now. We recommend FireFox and Chrome for the best experience with EasyKeeper.

Entering health events using the batch entry functionality can greatly speed up your data entry time and help ensure you have consistently entered, quality records.

Batch entry consists of three steps:
  1. Creation of health event templates
  2. Creating a list of animals that received the health activity or activities for applying the templates (optional)
  3. Applying the health events to animals
This article discusses refining the list of animals for the batch entry action, step 2.

While the batch entry functionality allows you to enter health records for multiple animals at a time, being able to select which animals
received the events is still required.

The benefits of refining the animal list prior to applying events to animals

When the animal list initially displays for the batch entry action, all animals "currently in the herd" are included in the animal list for selection. This works great if the activities were performed on all of the animals in the herd, but we know breeders often perform health management activities on groups smaller than the full herd. This is where being able to refine the list of animals really comes in handy: by using the same filters you are familiar with in the reports, you can pare down the list to a more manageable length. This means less records to scroll through to find the animals you need to select, and perhaps only the animals that received the event, allowing for a very easy "select all" action.

Let's walk through an example by adding a pregnancy test to a group of animals. We bred the last of our mature does on May 25th so we preg checked on June 25th.

After creating the health event template for the pregnancy test, our herd's 28 animals display:

Then, by using filters to limit the display to our does 12 months and older with due dates through October 25 we can narrow down the list to all the mature does bred more than 30 days ago:

Applied filters are highlighted in green to quick reference.

As that happens to be all of the animals we tested, we were able to do a "select all animals" action. After updating Daisy's event form to a Negative test results (bummer!) we saved the batch entry action.
